Yes Kev, it's all you.

It’s family chow time at Whisk in Coral Gables!  Check out what this week’s Big Friday Burger will be, today on Short Order.

Hola Honduras at Heidy’s Cafe

It ain’t gonna be pretty, but it’s down and dirty Honduran in its rawest form at Heidy’s Cafe.  Best part is, there are no lines to be suffered through or servers to ignore you like at hole-in-the-wall of the moment, Enriqueta’s, next door.  That comes in handy when you’re a hungry writer on deadline across the street.

Would you like some laundry with your coffee?

Would you like some laundry with your lunch?

At Heidy’s, it’s personal service and a decent meal in a flash, like mine, a lovely mess of home-cooked egg whites and spiced sauteed tri-color bell peppers with black beans and sour cream.  A rubbery in texture, but creamy in taste, slab of Honduran cheese completes the picture.

My lunch, huevos rancheros

Cabbage, rather than wiltable lettuce, adds a pleasant crunch

Ask for ensalada al lado and get a couple slices of tomato and the pleasant crunch of cabbage, not wiltable lettuce, to toss in

This dive only takes cash, but all of the above costs less than $10, so you can probably head to the couch instead of the ATM for some spare change.  But just remember to do either — or you may be stuck washing your way through lunch.  Check out my buddy Jake’s post last year on the Short Order blog.  He’s wicked good with the camera and sniffed out a spaghetti dish I’ve never seen before.  Looks guilt-inducing, but what of Jake’s posts aren’t?  Dig in if you’re in the area.

Happy long weekend hump day!   It’s been a while since I’ve done a buffet, but I was a little lazy this week linking my New Times posts, so now is as good a time as any for a tasty round up.

Monday, May 18: Fish fry joint in Little Havana get its 15 minutes.

Ole! It’s a new menu poolside at Cantina Beach.

Tuesday, May 19: A trip to Italy at the Ritz on Key Biscayne at Cioppino.

Wednesday, May 20: Rain or shine, it’s hot dog time in Wynwood.

If it looks like a duck… English appeals court rules Pringles indeed are a potato chip and eligible for taxation.

Thursday, May 21: Good drinkin’ meets good eatin’ at reborn Jake’s in South Miami.

Friday, May 22: Upper Eastside’s Soyka gets up a little earlier beginning June 1.

Drink up at these new summer happy hours.

Miami Shores’s resilient Village Cafe reopens in construction central.

Where Am I?
