Everything but the Kitchen Sink: Les Dames d’Escoffier Gourmet Garage Sale

January 11th, 2011 § Leave a Comment

Some of what I'm offering a la carte thanks to Chef.

To unearth buried treasure, look in the right places.

A trove of high quality kitchen goods sourced and curated by women who know food for a living will be ripe for the picking at the annual Les Dames d’Escoffier Gourmet Garage Sale on Saturday, January 29, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

As a new member of the Miami chapter, I’m excited to participate for the first time.  My donation will be dish and glassware which in their past lives served as props for chef Michael Schwartz’s cookbook shoot last year.

Proceeds support our various fundraising efforts to foster regional agriculture, sponsoring organic school vegetable gardens, better nutrition and cooking education for area youth and our region’s farm labor force, as well as annual culinary and farming scholarships for exceptional young South Florida women.

More details, including the address to type into your Google Maps app, after the jump.  See you out there.

Sunday Office Coffee Break with Illy and a View

December 20th, 2009 § Leave a Comment

Spending part of Sunday at the office ain't so bad with a view like this.

I’m at the office today, playing catch up on a bunch of things blog- and MGFD-related.  I had hit the 4 o’clock wall, so thank goodness for our Illy brand Francis Francis iperEspresso machine.

I’ve tried my fair share of Nespressos, Keurigs, Senseos, and other one-cup wonders.  This one has most beat.  The Illy espresso is great, the machine couldn’t be easier to use, and it looks nice, too.

And FYI, for any of you who are still gift shopping… Illy is running a holiday special right now on the machine we have, here.

There is a method to my madness.

The mean machine and its capsules.

coming soon… and fun swag for a cause.

I have been traveling and (happily) snow-bound in the winter wonderland of the Big Apple this week, hence the absence of postings over the past few days…   But I’m back in Miami now and have been lining up some exciting new content.  Here is a taste of what’s coming to the site (and via morning email feeds) this weekend, so have your fingers primed for clicking.

Joey’s, Saturday, March 7:  We speak with proprietor Thea Goldman and her team about this Wynwood Italian restaurant to find out what’s new, what’s the same and what we can expect to find in the surrounding neighborhood.

Teena’s Pride, Sunday, March 8:  We head down to Homestead, FL for a tour of an enterprising local farm that, with the help of a handful of South Florida foodies, is piloting a new community-supported agriculture program.  Get an insider’s view of South Florida locavorism.  After, we’ll do a taste test of what we pick up at the farm and how the product from Whole Foods Market compares, as well as find out if it lives up to its locally-grown “Promise” down here in the Sunshine State.

Also, I’m pleased to announce that you can now purchase the “official” Kitchen Interviews apron through Zazzle, a website that allows anyone and everyone to design and sell branded merchandise online at no cost.  The apron features the new Kitchen Interviews logo and web address, and comes in a variety of sizes and colors. Because of Zazzle’s unique business model, which also enables the seller (aka me) to receive a percentage – in this case 15 percent – of royalties from all sales, I would like to sieze the opportunity to donate these proceeds to Common Threads, now with a Miami chapter thanks to Chef Michelle Bernstein.  Be on the lookout for more fun merch to come!  And support a worthy cause!

Where Am I?
